The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is proud to announce and celebrate two high schools — Mililani and Maui High — that have been recognized as the first-ever Hawaiʻi Schools of Democracy.

Waipahu High celebrated the opening of its Integrated Academy Learning Center — a first in the state, creating a dedicated facility with industry-grade equipment and learning spaces for students in the school’s career academy pathways.

Castle High held its inaugural Career Exposure Fair for students to better engage with prospective employers from 40 local businesses and industries “speed-dating” style.

Proud alumni were recently inducted into the Kaimukī High School Hall of Honor. We asked Superintendent Keith Hayashi, award-winning designer Owen Ho, and breakdancer Jack Rabanal to tell us who were some of their mentors when they were students at Kaimukī High.

Ka‘ū High & Pāhala Elementary Principal Sharon Beck was named the winner of the 2023 Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award. Principal Wesley Shinkawa of Kapolei High School was one of two semi-finalists.

The Henry Perrine Baldwin High School has become a member of The Hawai`i Academies, an organization of Hawai`i public schools centered around smaller learning communities.

Campbell, Waiakea, and Pearl City High schools have academies that have been certified as model academies from the Notational Career Academy Coalition (NCAC).

Hawai`i Academies schools have successfully completed the Governor's Emergency Education Relief Project. Project results and reports may be viewed.

Honoka`a High and Intermediate Schools holds a community Thanksgiving Dinner as part of their GEER Project.
